The St Donats Castle wedding of Elin Haf Williams and Sam Hobbs took place a couple of weeks ago on a perfect, warm Summer’s Day. Well it didn’t start out like that, we first travelled to her Parents’ home in Ystradgynlais. It’s a town I’ve always had a soft spot for, just on the southern edge of the dramatic and wild Brecon Beacons. It was a dubious start to the day ahead, raining and grey. Then a reassuring call came through from Zoë Binning (wedding organiser extraordinaire) to say the the sun was shining at St Donat’s and all the wedding plans and decor were all looking good. After enjoying taking pictures of some red soled shoes in Elin’s dad’s lovely garden (and not pinching even one strawberry!), we headed on the long trip back to sunny St Donat’s where Sam, his best men and family were just arriving. It was immediately noticeable as the guests arrived how huge some of the men were, Sam plays for Cardiff Blues and many of his team mates were foot taller than the rest of us mere mortals!

The scene was perfect, such an impressive set of buildings, with amazing views across the sea make this one of our favourite wedding venues in South Wales. We have always had gorgeous weather for our weddings here and today was no exception. The friendly staff from Town and Country Catering were already busying themselves preparing the post ceremony drinks and Zoë was putting the finishing touches to the ceremony room.

Elin Haf Williams looked absolutely beautiful as she walked up the aisle toward her Sam, waiting with baited breath. Her Stella York dress was perfect for her, thanks to Laura May Bridal. The Make up and Hair were by Jinty Day and Lucy Thomas respectively. The gorgeous flowers from Margaret’s Blooms and the very swishy bridesmaids dresses all came together perfectly. What a wonderful moment for any girl and a very emotional one for any Dad (and Mum).

A delightful bilingual St Donat’s Castle Wedding ceremony was led by Dylan and registrar Stella from the Vale Registrars office was accompanied by superb Harp playing by Heledd Lyne, a Llantwit Major local – she must have fingers of steel to play for so long! Then it was out onto the back lawn for Pimms and delicious Hapus Ice Cream from the brilliant and entertaining Dave Roberts of Icycle Tricycle Wales, another Llantwit Major local – particularly welcome on such a hot day.

After a trip to the quayside and gentle stroll back up through the gardens and the family photos done – all on time, as always – we were called in for the wedding breakfast. A big surprise for everyone was that two of the waiters were not all they seemed… Just as dessert was served the Bravo Singing Waiters made themselves known in their usual dramatic style, the whole room was singing and dancing within minutes! What a great show they put on and really got the party started.

Entertaining, funny and emotional speeches (well done Men!) were followed by more relaxing in the evening sunshine as the evening guests arrived and dancing the night away to the excellent iRock indie wedding band.
